At Furtah Preparatory School, we use the Georgia Performance Standards (www.georgiastandards.org) as our guideline for our 5th-12th grade curriculum. This means we follow the state guidelines; however, because we are a private school, we have more flexibility to either advance, or if necessary, stay on a subject matter if the students are not prepared to move on. Although we have provided a link for parents, we encourage all parents to stay in touch with the teacher’s lesson plans through Renweb, so that they are able to see the progress the students are making.
In order to facilitate each student’s learning strategies, we have also embraced the Thinking Maps technique. Thinking Maps are a way to engage the students in active and higher level thinking. They are used to create a universal language across the curriculum, as well as between the teachers and students. We invite you to learn more about this special teaching technique at www.thinkingmaps.org, or to contact Beth Kovacich or Chris Jones with any questions you might have.
